Archery – Permit Scheme

We are now able to offer activity training for Archery, this is under the Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme to the level of Leadership – Without compound bows on the following dates;

21st and 22nd March 2020

10th and 11th October 2020

20th and 21st March 2021

09th and 10th October 2021

Assessment Date – As part of the course, time allowing as well as a secondary assessment as part of the course requirements.

Venue: The Sir John Lowther Centre (SJLC) located on Rushton Road, Glendon, Kettering

Participants are required to attend both days in full, and be an adult member of Northamptonshire Scouts, lunch will be provided both days.

The outcome of the course hopefully being the knowledge and skills to obtain a permit for Archery ‘Leadership – Without Compound Bows’, which is the recognised standard for running Archery ranges within Scouting.

There are a limited number of spaces available which are first come first served for booking a place, by filling in the booking form. We are particular keen to hear from adults involved in Scouting that may have availability during weekdays.

Course Cost

  1. £10 per person – In return for the costs of training a commitment is asked for to complete 10 hours a year of running or being part of events for the activity trained in, at SJLC for two years.
  2. £25 per person, there is no commitment to SJLC with this option, which means you will not be asked by us if you would be available to run sessions held at SJLC.

By paying a course fee a donation is made towards improving Archery equipment instead of paying for facilities hire and covering course expenditure such as lunch. This payment will have to be paid upon arrival by cash or cheque made payable to ‘Northants County Scout Council’.

Course Requirements

Archery sits within the Adventurous Activity Permit Scheme as detailed in The Scouts POR, part of the sign off process is a review of training elements. Any adult in Northamptonshire Scouts applying for activity training will need to have the following showing as completed/in date on Compass:

If none of the above are in place due to your role not requiring the above or training is in progress, then additional support will be required. This can be sought from your ADC Activities in your district as the above elements need to be in place to secure a permit. The course will provide the knowledge and skills required with permits signed off with the ADC Activities or County Archery Assessor once completed.

Secondary Assessment

As part of the Archery Course we are asking that you would be available on one or both of these weekends for a Secondary Assessment for your Permit to be signed off. The dates we have highlighted are based for the March 2020 Archery Permit Course and are as follows;

To book on the course please complete the booking form below;

For any further information please email Daniel at:

instructors@lowtheradventure.org.uk

A member of the team will be in contact with each person to confirm if a place has been secured or if on the waiting list.
