About Lowther Adventure
The Sir John Lowther County Scout Activity Centre has been purpose built for residential and non residential activities and training for both adults and young people.
The Centre is owned and run by Northamptonshire County Scouts and is used as their Leader Training base and as the County Headquarters. Our residential and activity facilities are available to hire all year round.
The team of volunteers at the centre are constantly working to improve facilities and provide outdoor adventurous activities. Ideas are always welcome.
Our facilities are available to hire by all youth and adult organisations, along with corporate and celebration events. The on site activities are available all year round, some weather dependant, and we are happy for activities to be brought on site by prior arrangement.

Volunteering
The centre runs using an amazing team of volunteers known as Lowther’s Knights Scout Active Support Unit, along with a small team of crucial employed staff. If you are interested in joining our volunteer team in anyway, on a permanent or temporary basis, or can offer specialist skills and advice please find more information here. History of our Centre
The land where the Sir John Lowther Centre is located used to be owned by British Steel before it was acquired by Northamptonshire County Scouts. David Chatwin was an essential part of this process providing expertise and a link with British Steel. A tree was planted and remains in memory of David Chatwin.
At the time of centre being developed the County Commissioner for Northamptonshire County Scouts was Bryan Mutlow, and Sir John Lowther was the County Lord Lieutenant for whom the centre was named after. A great deal of funding was provided through Bernard Sunley, for which a residential wing within the centre building was named after.
Northamptonshire County Scouts acquired ten acres of land which is now managed by volunteers (Lowther Knights) and hosts events for many youth and adult organisations.
Access to the site used to be from a track located close to the A43 that went between Kettering and Corby. Development of an industrial estate later took place close to the SJLC grounds, as a result of this a new tarmac access road was created, being accessed from Rushton Road, Glendon. This tarmac road now provides convenient access for all vehicle types.
Financing the Centre and Development
Sir John Lowther Centre (Lowther Adventure) is owned by Northamptonshire County Scouts, it is financed by commercial and volunteer organisation bookings, along with donations with all income being re-invested into the facilities. The Scout Association is a registered charity. Costs to hire the facilities and/or activities are always kept to a minimum with various pricing and combination options.
Within the centre we advertise partners that sponsor the centre, we are grateful for contributions and donations whether it be financial or expertise. Ideas and partnership working always considered.
